HB - Protects Against Condensation

Adsorption dehumidifiers are ideal for the prevention of condensation on cold surfaces. Free water on a material's surface will often lead to damage; paper and cardboard will crease and steels will corrode within a short time.

Condensation occurs when humid air meets a cold surface, because the air nearest the cold surface is cooled and its moisture condenses out. This is a question of the dew point of the air (or the dew point temperature) being higher than the temperature of the cold surface.

Among other environments, condensation is found in waterworks, where cold pipes "sweat" during the summertime because the pipes are colder than the dew point of the surrounding air, and in breweries, where the cold tanks cause moisture in the surrounding air to condense out.

Ice rinks face the problem of the ice cooling the building and leading to condensation on walls, which can lead to humidity damage.

In the above mentioned cases, the only way to avoid condensation is to lower the dew point of the air until it is below the temperature of the coldest surface. This can only be done through dehumidification because the cold surface must not be heated. Adsorption dehumidifiers can often be installed very economically, particularly in waterproof environments such as waterworks, where they can be smaller in size and lower in energy consumption.

HB Group adsorption dehumidifiers are used to protect against condensation in the following areas:

A simple control is available to limit the operation of the dehumidifier in these circumstances. This monitors the formation of the condensation on a cold surface and initiates the dehumidifier according to actual demand.
